Scuttlelicious 0.1.1 Released

Submitted by kai on Mon, 2005-12-12 19:42. ::

I've upgraded Scuttlelicious to version 0.1.1 to work with Firefox 1.5.

The only change I made was to make Scuttlelicious to be compatible with Firefox 1.5 in the "install.rdf" file.

However, there's a bug with the version. The submit bookmark dialog doesn't disappear by automatically after one posts a bookmark successfully. It disappears when any part of it is clicked, or when you switch windows. I only tested this in Windows 2000. Please let me know if you have the same problem with any other platform.

I haven't found a fix for that. But I am releasing this version so that users of Firefox 1.5 can still use it to post bookmarks(with a little bit of troubles).

For people wanting to know the source of this bug, here's my guess: somehow, the dialog can't be dismissed completed within the callback function to the XMLHttpRequest that sends the bookmark posting request. This bug is specific to Firefox 1.5.

is there any way to add an option to add it as private or public?

It's not possible right now because Scuttle's API doesn't support adding private bookmarks.

But I am planning to add the support of adding private/shared with watch list bookmarks to the extension. But it will be only useful for people having their own patched copy of Scuttle because Scuttle's developers haven't apply my patch to Scuttle's API.

How do I apply this patch to posts_add.php using Windows or Linux ?

OR better yet, where can I d/l a pre-patched posts_add.php ?

BTW the server is Debian Sarge, Apache2 & php4

Windows GNU patch.exe borks with -

L:\new>patch -i l:\new\posts_add.php.v.1.5(2).patch -r l:\new\post_rejects -o l:\new\posts_new.php

patching file posts_add.php
Assertion failed: hunk, file ../patch-2.5.9-src/patch.c, line 340

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

You should use the patch command under Linux. It's much easier and just works. I've used "patch" command under CygWin in Windows. It just doesn't work.

You can download the patch here. You need to save it as "posts_add.php" and put it in the api directory under your Scuttle installation directory.

I may have misled you into thinking that Scuttlelicious 0.1.1 lets you post non-public bookmarks if you patch posts_add.php.

Scuttlelicious 0.1.1 doesn't support posting of non-public bookmarks. But I will be working on it.
